Get to know Joanie Mahoney...

Joanie Mahoney's life is one of service, commitment, and family.

One of nine children of Joanne and Bernie Mahoney, a former city councilor and New York State Assemblyman, Joanie was raised on the city's Southwest side where she attended Shea Middle School and Corcoran High School.

After graduating from Syracuse University School of Management and Syracuse University College of Law, Joanie worked as an attorney in private practice before beginning a successful public service career as a criminal prosecutor in the Onondaga County District Attorney's Office.

In 1999, Joanie defeated an incumbent to win an at-large seat on the Syracuse Common Council. Joanie chaired the Education Committee and the Parks, Recreation & Youth Programs Committee during her full tenure on the Common Council.

Joanie is married to Marc Overdyk, another lifelong resident of Onondaga County. They reside in the Town of Onondaga with their four school-aged boys.

As the Onondaga County Executive, Joanie will advance an aggressive strategy to propel our county and the Central New York community forward.
